I think Mother’s Day is the day when it’s perfectly acceptable to get exactly what you want and to make no bones about it. And ladies, LADIES, listen. Save yourself the disappointment and your husband/partner the trouble by just texting him a link of what you want. This is important. It doesn’t mean you are any less loved. It just means you are acknowledging that sometimes life is busy and that most human beings are not mind-readers.
Here’s my dream Mother’s Day presents:
// this leather jacket: I’ve had this (or, even better, a truly amazing vintage score on eBay that I will never find because I don’t take the time to find it; I think I’m waiting for it to magically leap into my outstretched arms) on my mind for like 3+ years but cannot justify the price… yet.
// any of this jewelry: I just love all the jewelry in this shop. such great colors and shapes!
// a date to a really great restaurant: and while there, he/she hands you a letter that specifies all the amazing things about you from marriage to motherhood–STEVE, DID YOU READ THIS ONE?
// a stay at a really cool boutique hotel: i’ve got my eye on cliff house maine right now; it looks magical. bonus: SPA
// this suit: it may be the most attractive, chicest swimsuit i’ve ever seen?
THAT IS IT.
p.s. i did a mother’s day guide on ona bags blog — check it out!

Love, love, love that swimsuit; it is seriously in my cart–though I cannot guarantee it will make it to shipped…so not supposed to be spending money right now! Ugh!

For the past couple years I have just taken the bull by the horns and made the g-d Mother’s Day brunch reservations myself, where I want us all to go. And it’s been great. I know I have something lovely and delicious to look forward to and it’s all good. 🙂
PS: Been reading your blog for year and love it.
PPS: Fellow Seafolly bathing suit fan. Best brand!

I commented on FB as well but we are planning to go to Maine late summer/early fall with no reservations at the present time so your post was perfect and got me so excited for the trip! I went down the Maine rabbit hole last night – any suggestions if we were thinking of flying into Boston and driving up? We have a 2-1/2 year old who loves the water. I will search the archives for all of your Boston suggestions! These Texans will be looking forward to some relief from the heat by late August or I hope there will be relief 🙂

Portland is great! So many amazing restaurants and you can take a ferry right there to visit islands. Camden, ME… basically the entire coast! Ogunquit, Kennebunkport… you can’t go wrong!

thank you!

Think how low the cost-per-wear would be if you had gotten that leather jacket three years ago. 🙂

I always text a list. Makes us all happier (I think). And that swimsuit. Except you know you’re a mom when your first thought is, That would be perfect for my daughter! (But I don’t usually spend that much on kids’ clothes)
