The kids started school this week.  So, it's just me and Parker (and Gracie, of course) getting into the swing of things these days.  The weather has turned very fall-like all of a sudden too.  I'm feeling torn.  Sad to say goodbye to summer, in a lot of ways.  This summer was the summer of my first pregnancy and birth.  The more time moves away from that, the older Parker gets.  But, at the same time, I'm looking forward to becoming more and more accustomed to my new normal.  Sad to have the kids one year older--William is in sixth grade!  I find it so hard to believe.  I heard this quote recently about being a mom: "The days are long but the years are short."  It's so true.  I find myself desperate to savor every moment, but equally feeling stressed by this, that, and the other and also by my inability to truly savor the moments!  It's ridiculous, isn't it?  A learning process, indeed.  Well, either way, happy September to you and yours.

  3. ps- have you read that quote about Babies Don't Keep? If not, I'll send it to you. It's sweet, and sums up well what I think you're feeling.

  5. But just think of all the quality time you'll have with the little man! :) It's cooled down in Denver, too - although, after 90+ degree summer days, I was ready for it!

  8. I love that quote. So true. I love summer evenings, but I am soo over summer days. Fall, cider, adorable babies in sweaters? Bring it.

Plus, aren't you just a teeny bit excited about little Parker's first holiday season? Sure he'll be older, but he'll be older dressed up all pumpkin like, or something far more adorable. Yay!

  11. It's still hot here in California. I'm dreaming of sweaters and boots and leaves. My babes are already talking Halloween costumes. We've got a good 2 months before temperatures drop. Enjoy the Autumn for us!

  12. I've heard "the moments are long, but the years are short" and feel it the most when I'm up feeding in the middle of the night. My little guy slept through the night for the first time two nights ago and I almost missed getting up with him! Well my boobs did for sure...

  17. Looks like Mr. Parker is in full on smile mode now! With my nephews I always think of the quote from Finding Neverland... "Young boys should never be sent to bed - they always wake up a day older."

  18. Parker, you swoony smile face you.

Does it get much sweeter, Bridget, than having your little boy smile up at you? I don't think it does. We never get tired of it over here.

  25. After entering the LPL contest...I just went back and read your "about us chapters" and also read a couple of others....Being a step-parent has got to be one of the hardest jobs in the world! I completely admire you for taking it on! I'm a divorced mom and I live with my boyfriend of 4 years...My kids are 4 and 6 1/2. So...we've been together since my son was an infant. We have so many ups and downs....I love your honest writing...My boyfriend does not have kids, I can't even imagine the strain that would put on things if he did.
I'm glad I found your blog...I look forward to following you!

  26. That's got to be the best quote I've ever heard. So absolutely true.
You think stuff will never end while you're going through it and then poof! they're in (gasp) 8th grade.

  27. That quote sounds SO true, although I'm not a mom yet. It's true even with life in general! You have a lovely family, I bet the holidays are going to be SO fun with your new babe!

  28. what a great time of year for things to slow down as you relish in every moment with parker! the photo of you kissing him...priceless. plus, how'd you get so tiny so fast?!?!? you're one hot mama!

  29. Yeah, I'm with you on that quote. I'm not a mom, but I'm a Nanny, and I've been there with back to school, and watching the years go by with children! One child I still am in touch with, I started watching her when she was two, and now she's eight! Every time I see her I can't believe how bigger she is! I still see the little girl she was.
And it does seem colder down where I am too. But I'm glad. I'm ready for fall.
